Introducing Phil S.
Share a brief overview of your professional background.
My career started in the car business where I was a salesman for over 10 years. I started while still in college so I learned a lot about work ethic and customer service. After my car dealer days, I completed my financial exams including my series 7 and 66. Now, I am a financial advisor which allows me to put the client first and help in a much more drastic way.
Share a bit about your personal interests or hobbies.
My favorite things to do are playing golf in the summer and snowboarding in the winter. I love playing my drums, which I do for a few different local bands. I fill the rest of my time with friends and family, going for walks with my dog, Arnold Palmer, and trying new food places in Vermont.
Recommend a local restaurant/shop/business that you love.
I love shopping local. I am always walking around downtown or checking out spots around the U Mall or in Williston. My favorite restaurant is the Upper Deck Pub in South Burlington. It was my grandmother’s favorite so going back there always reminds me of her. I spend time visiting some of the great Church Street businesses like Lippa’s Estate & Fine Jewelry, Maven Skateshop, and Harbour Thread. They are always friendly and have an awesome selection.
Tell us what you like most about living in the greater Burlington area.
I like being close to the lake and family, and just about everything else. I live in the middle of South Burlington so almost all of the surrounding towns are within a ten minute drive. You can take a right out of my driveway and head into the city or to the lake, or take a left to get out to a family farm stand or a beautiful hike with a great view.
Share what motivated you to join the BYP Advisory Board.
I joined the Board because the young professionals in Burlington are very important. There is a significantly increasing older population here and Vermont needs younger people to step up to enhance what the older population has started. The Board helps broadcast that in a way that is fun and inviting for our YPs.
