Introducing Troi B.
Share a brief overview of your professional background.
I began my career as a public school Civics and American History teacher, first teaching middle school and then high school. I made a transition into government affairs in 2017, working as a Local Government Affairs Director for the North Carolina Realtor Association (NCR). During my time at NCR, I developed my skills in advocacy and organizational management, inspiring me to pursue a Master of Public Administration at Northeastern University, specializing in philanthropy, social change, and the nonprofit sector. In 2022, I relocated to Vermont to work as the Chief Executive Officer for the Northwest Vermont Realtor Association.
Share a bit about your personal interests or hobbies.
Since moving to Vermont two years ago, I have gotten more interested in being outdoors! I love taking hikes with my three year old and my husband. I also love to cook and recently took up baking bread as well. Don't ask me for any recipes - I am notorious for not measuring anything. You can find me out and about checking out local bookstores and libraries, too, as I love to read.
Recommend a local restaurant/shop/business that you love.
I always take friends and family to visit Zero Gravity! Great beer, great food, great vibes.
Tell us what you like most about living in the greater Burlington area.
Burlington has a community feel that you don't get everywhere. The proximity to outdoor recreation options cannot be beat, and we've got our fair share of fantastic coffee and beer. Daily lake and mountain views don't hurt either.
Share what motivated you to join the BYP Advisory Board.
I joined the BYP Advisory Board to gain deeper connections with fellow young professionals in this area. As a transplant to Vermont, I have had to rebuild my professional network, and BYP's programming has been a great way to do that! I also have a passion for supporting others in their career progression - I have had several amazing mentors early in my career, and I want to help folks get connected with resources to make their working (and personal!) lives better.
